Need List for the McCants Orchestra

The following is a list of items that are needed for the McCants Orchestra to continue to be successful.

18 Manhasset Music Stands - 3 packs of 6 for $199 each = $597 plus shipping

Some of our music stands are bent up and broken and some still say

L J H (Lakeside Junior High) which show their age.

Concert music for concerts in the fall, winter, spring, and elementary school tour - $150-$200 for each concert x4 = $600-$800

I do re-use pieces from the years past but try to mix old songs with new

pieces.  But orchestra pieces are from $45-$65 each.  Since we have 7

different levels of orchestra (6th grade, advanced 6th grade, 7th grade,

advanced 7th grade, 8th grade, advanced 8th grade and chamber

orchestra) they add up very quickly.

Elementary School Tour where we perform for our six feeder schools.  Last year to pay for buses for the elementary schools plus when we performed for the nursing homes it was $1300.

This is the one time the elementary school students get to hear us

perform and we can demonstrate the instruments and talk to them about

the orchestra program at McCants.  I taught students through the

elementary summer strings program this summer and they all

remembered me from the concerts.  Some said they signed up because

of us coming and playing for them.

I really believe in performing for our local nursing homes.  This

brings great joy to the people there and really shows the what

          performing music is all about.

Costs of printing programs for each concert - perhaps if someone works at or owns a printing company this would be a great donation.

I usually make up the programs for each concert but I am only allowed

so many copies here at school and with 105 students in the program it

could quickly use up my copies.

Repairs of instruments, bows needing to be re-haired, strings, rosin, mutes, etc. - $500-$700 for the year.

Repairs on string instruments can really be expensive.  Already this year

I had to replace two broken strings - about $50.  Sometimes an accident

happens where a student drops an instrument or it gets damaged

somehow.  Other times the string just gets to old and used and it breaks.

Or the bow hair is so old it starts breaking or the bow stick itself breaks.

These things happen and when they do you need replacements so the

students can continue to play on an instrument.
